Pro Sports Chaplain
Shawn Mitchell has long been noted as “the longest tenured Chaplain in the history of the National Football League,” serving more than 28 years with the San Diego Chargers Pro Football Organization. Before joining the Chargers, Mitchell got his start in Major League Baseball serving as the Co-Chaplain for the San Diego Padres. While continuing to lead occasional “Bolts” Bible studies and Chapels, Mitchell broadened to a national platform in 2012, reaching coaches and players of all venues as a Pro Sports Chaplain, through personal engagements and outreach organizations such as “NFL Play 60.”
Noted Speaker and Instructor
Shawn Mitchell is a noted and dynamic speaker and personality, in and out of the San Diego community. He has served as an instructor with the Billy Graham Association, training thousands around the country for Billy Graham citywide crusades. He has spoken nationally as well as internationally in over 18 countries the past three decades.
His formal training includes a BA in Theology-Philosophy from Point Loma Christian College; graduate studies at Bethel Seminary and Azusa Pacific University; with studies at the Institute of the Holy Land in Jerusalem, Israel and the Goethe Institute in Germany. In addition, he was awarded collegiate honors in public speaking and served as an instructor in speech communication & debate. Shawn, his wife Laurie, and their son Shawn Jr., reside in Oceanside, California.
